Concept Analysis Center
Background Like most health care disciplines nursing is increasingly moving toward a world view of practice using language that captures the phenomena of concern to nursing (nursing diagnoses), the health improvements in people that are nurse sensitive (nursing outcomes), and the interventions used to facilitate health improvements (nursing interventions). Nurses throughout the world see the critical value of standardized nursing languages to clarify what nursing is and what nurses do. This clarification is needed for the public, other disciplines, and for nurses themselves. These languages must have meaning and cultural relevance in their own countries. Assistance in developing and refining language using concept analysis methods is requested from developers of language frequently, but the cost of travel prohibits personal assistance. This prohibitive cost impedes the development of cultural specificity in nursing language. The purpose of the Concept Analysis Center is to provide written protocols, consultation, and resources using the Internet for concept analysis which international nurses can use for language development and refinement. |
